Nizamabad Journalists Condemn Attack on Women Journalists

Term Delhi Police Action as Heinous, Hold Protest

Demand Special Law for Protection of Journalists

Nizamabad (By Shairaz), September 07:

Protesting the indiscriminate attack by Delhi Police on Muslim women journalists in Delhi, a protest programme was organized on Monday under the aegis of Nizamabad Press Club, as per the call given by national journalists' associations.

In the morning, leaders of journalists' unions met CP Sai Chaitanya at the District Police Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum. Speaking on the occasion, Press Club President P. Srikanth, Secretary Waghmare Subhash, and Senior Urdu Journalists Association leader Pappa Khan said that it is a heinous act for the police themselves to attack journalists, who are considered the Fourth Estate in society. They questioned how far it is justified to attack woman journalist Shaheen Nafees by targeting her caste and religion.

They said that just like the Central and State Governments brought a special law to prevent attacks on doctors following pressure from the medical and health department, a similar special law should be brought to prevent attacks on Telugu, English, Urdu print and electronic media journalists who are exposing irregularities and bringing out the misdeeds of those looting government properties in the form of news.

They demanded departmental action against the Delhi Police personnel who resorted to the attack and their immediate dismissal from duties. They warned that otherwise dharnas and protests will be continued across the country.

In this protest programme, Nizamabad Press Club committee members Raj Kumar, Raju, Bhaskar Goud, Swamy, Preetham Reddy, Ravicharan Reddy, Ratan Reddy, leaders of various journalists associations Aravind Balaji, Pakala Narasimhulu, Mahender, Kalyan, Prem Kumar, Rajesh, Sandeep, Ganesh, Vijay, Urdu journalists Khaled, Lucky, Fodin,  Shakeel, Majeed Bhai, Akhil, Yunus, Yaseen, Usman Bhai, Nadeem, Ghaffar, Yusuf and others participated in large numbers.
