Nizamabad Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya revealed that A-1 Gandham Santosh, the prime accused in the Chittari Haribabu murder case, has been arrested.
Based on a complaint filed by Chittari Lakshmi on 17.09.2026 regarding the murder of her son Chittari Haribabu, a murder case was registered at Nizamabad II Town Police Station under Crime No. 169/2026, U/s 103(1) r/w 3(5) BNS. Immediately after registering the case, special teams were formed under the leadership of the Commissioner and investigation was intensified with the help of CCTV footage and technical evidence.

Background of the case:
In connection with the murder of Haribabu's wife Gandham Vaishnavi on 17.03.2026, a case was registered at Korutla Police Station in which Haribabu, his mother Lakshmi and two brothers were arrested and sent to Karimnagar jail and later released on bail. After release, fearing threat to life from Vaishnavi's family members, Haribabu and his mother Lakshmi came to Nizamabad and were living in Sainagar and eking out a living by selling corn cobs near R.R. Chowrasta.
With revenge in mind over Vaishnavi's murder, A-1 Gandham Santosh, with the help of his mother Gandham Rani, his aunt's sons Charan, Ranjith and other family members, came to Nizamabad on 17.09.2026 at around 5 pm from Korutla in a white Swift Desire car No. TS-36A-4843.
While Haribabu was drinking water at a panipuri cart in front of Giriraj Complex near R.R. Chowrasta, Santosh got down from the right-side rear door of the car and attacked him multiple times on the head, face and neck with a knife and fled in the same car, as revealed by eyewitnesses and technical evidence.
Four special teams were formed to trace the accused and based on credible information, A-1 Santosh was found to be at Nizamabad Outer Bypass. When police tried to catch him today on 19.09.2026, he tried to escape. He was taken into custody and interrogated, leading to crucial information. He was caught while trying to go to the railway station to go to his in-laws' place Visakhapatnam after abandoning the car.
The knife used for the murder, the Swift Desire car, two other knives and two sticks found in the car were seized.
The Commissioner said the accused is being produced in court and remanded, and as the involvement of four persons has been primarily established in this case, investigation into the role of the others is continuing. He said the remaining absconding persons will be caught soon.
The Commissioner congratulated ACP Prakash, CI Srinivas Raj, SI Yadagiri Goud and staff who arrested the accused within one and a half days of the murder and directed that the investigation be conducted from all angles to ensure conviction in court.
